About

My name is Michelle and I have always enjoyed baking.  You see, I am a recipe follower (or so I always thought), following each and every step and ingredient to the T.  Giving up on a recipe halfway through if I didn't have an exact ingredient.  I had heard once that people were either bakers or savory cooks, but never both.  I have recently realized whoever told me that was a liar!

I love to bake, absolutely and unequivocally love it.  I still love measuring and following each step, but I can now substitute ingredients and/or change things up a bit to suite my own taste (or that of my family).  When I got married I felt that I needed to learn to cook (even though my husband could easily live on cereal and mac 'n cheese), I knew that it was something that I needed to do.  I never thought I would fall in love with it!  I still follow recipes, from cookbooks, websites and blogs, but now I enjoy putting my own spin on it.  This blog probably won't have a lot of original recipes (at least for a while), quite frankly I don't have many, but it will be nice to be able to see all of the recipes I have tried in one tidy place.  I follow quite a few blogs and I know that when you find someone who has similar tastes it is fun to see what they make and get new ideas!  I would love my daughters to have some handed-down family recipes and I'm hoping this blog will be a great start for that.  I spend far too much time reading recipe/food blogs and meal planning.  I guess this blog would be considered the next step in my passion for cooking.

My tastes are very eclectic and there aren't many things I won't try.  I will admit to a severe hatred of Rosemary, but other than that I'm pretty much open to anything.  Luckily, my daughter Mollie, who is 3, shares my adventure for food (with only a couple of ingredients she will not eat - namely raw tomatoes and raw onions).  My younger daughter, Megann who is 4 months, isn't into food YET, but I hope she will share our love of trying new things.  The wrench in my culinary plans is my husband.  He is probably the world's pickiest eater.  I'm working on it, but it is a very slow process.  In fact, my greatest food achievement in the 5 years I have known him is that he now likes asparagus and will even order it in a restaurant (if you know his eating habits you know that is HUGE!)  Generally, he won't eat any sort of vegetable, seafood, pork, spicy food, the list goes on an on.  Some nights I throw a bowl, spoon, milk and a box of cereal at him... it's just easier that way!

So come along with me (and Mollie) on a culinary adventure!  I may throw in some other things as this blog gets going, but my main goal is to track our cooking progress and hopefully find some new family favorite recipes along the way.
